Audio
Your audio clip on the pads: move its start, end and loop, add warp markers, and chop it up live.
- Your clip on the pads: START, END, LOOP and WARP
- PERFORM: temporary loops, in time
Your clip on the pads
Press User on an audio track. Live doesn't give scripts the waveform, so the pads show where things are: the clip, its loop, the playhead and the markers.
- dark blue: the clip
- sky blue: the loop
- white: the playhead
- green: the start marker
- red: the end marker
- yellow: warp markers
1 The scene buttons pick what the pads edit, top to bottom:
| Button | Tap a slice to… |
|---|---|
| START / END | put the start marker there, or the end at the slice's end. Shift: at the playhead |
| LOOP | start the loop there. Hold a slice and tap another: loop from one to the other. Shift: loop on / off |
| WARP | add a warp marker, or select one (it blinks) and move it with Nudge − / Nudge +. Shift: delete it |
| PERFORM | play temporary loops: next page |
Up / Down zoom in and out (on warped clips a bar is 32 slices of a 32nd), Left / Right move along. A top-row pad jumps to that part.
Nudge − / Nudge + move what you edit by a quarter slice. The status bar names every edit (Start: 2.1.3).
PERFORM
While the clip plays, every row is a timeline of its own: 1 bar, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16 from top to bottom, eight slices side by side. The white pad in each row is where the playhead is at that size.
1 Hold a white pad: the clip loops that slice right there. Let go and it's back where it would have been, in time.
While holding, press a pad in a finer row 2: it rolls inside the held slice. Lift it and the held one plays again.
Every jump stays in time: a pad elsewhere starts at the same place in its slice as the playhead in its own. Live carries out each change about 0.2 s after the press, so play a touch early.
LOOP, WARP and PERFORM need a warped clip, and PERFORM needs Live playing. On an unwarped clip their buttons are dark and START / END work in seconds.
